Activities
The WGEESS is home to SCB members who work on issues related to the conflict between economic growth and biodiversity conservation. Such issues generally fall under the rubric of ecological economics and sustainability science, and include the likes of ecological foot printing, natural capital valuation, Peak Oil, alternative energy futures, environmental justice, and the political economy of biodiversity conservation.
The working group is active in developing and cataloging information on ecological economics and its application to biodiversity conservation. In addition to providing resources (bibliography, working papers, position on economic growth, and slideshows) on this website, the WGEESS produces and implements a yearly strategy, administers a listserve, and develops symposia and other educational opportunities at SCB annual meetings.
