The challenge? Provide environmental scientific support for our rapidly growing siting, licensing, and permitting practice. Our Staff Scientist career path will give you the opportunity to play a role in all stages of siting and permitting projects in the industrial and energy sectors, including oil &gas; pipelines, renewable energy, electric transmission lines and power plant facilities. This is an opportunity for a qualified individual to participate on field teams supporting projects related to the development and operation of energy projects located throughout Northern, CA. In this, mid-level position, you will serve as a key team member working with scientists, engineers, project managers, and other project staff. You should be a self-motivated professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or similar environmental discipline and have a desire to build a career in environmental consulting services.
Our Staff Scientists:
-Work directly with clients, and work in client offices. Travel to client/project locations in Northern CA to perform biological field surveys, with an emphasis on wetlands delineation, and data collection and have significant interaction with both clients and the regulatory community.
-Experience leading and contributing to environmental impact evaluation, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys and reporting, resource and impact evaluations, preparation of NEPA/CEQA analysis and documentation, and Section 7 ESA Consultation.
-Experience leading environmental permitting of energy facilities and/or pipelines in the western United States including: USACE 404 wetland permitting, California Department of Fish and Wildlife 1600 Agreements and CESA permitting, RWQCB 401 certifications, and other environmental permitting.
-Demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural resource fields applicable to commercial (primarily conventional or renewable energy generation/transmission) siting and licensing or environmental permitting of other infrastructure projects.
-Experience performing various biological field surveys for planning and construction.
-Experience with California Tiger Salamanders and California Red-legged Frogs a plus.
CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position. Ability to travel to client sites as needed. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position. This position could be based out of our Oakland Office or client office in San Ramon, California.
-Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science, or similar environmental discipline
-Environmental consulting experience.
-Experience working directly with clients.
-Experience preparing NEPA/CEQA analysis and documentation.
-Experience with California regulatory environment and permitting processes.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Be a self-starter and team-oriented.
-Possess California-specific biology experience.
-Ability to work in a client office.
-Master’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or similar environmental discipline
-6+yrs of experience in the siting and licensing field in California, including experience conducting field work with a focus on wetland delineations.
-Established relationships with local, state, and federal permitting agencies. CEQA/NEPA experience. Possession of a state (Scientific Collecting/MOU) or federal permit [10(a)1(A)] for listed species a plus.
-Key species include California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, and vernal pool branchiopods.
-Experience using GPS technology, conducting wetland delineation surveys, protected species surveys, and habitat assessments.
-Strong field skills and familiarity with major environmental regulations are important.
-Ability to travel up to 75%
