Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative Program Manager

The Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative (SFEC) was created as part of the Minnesota Sustainable Forest Resources Act of 1995 to provide continuing professional education opportunities to natural resource managers in the state of Minnesota. The SFEC continues as the primary professional outreach program for natural resource managers within the state, with recent program expansion regionally, nationally and internationally. The SFEC is a public-private partnership, and a program of the Cloquet Forestry Center (CFC) and the Department of Forest Resources (DFR) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) at the University of Minnesota (UMN).
This position will facilitate design, delivery, and management of all aspects of the SFEC program, including: 1) major curriculum development, conference and workshop design and delivery; 2) program evaluation and impact assessment; 3) planning and educational needs assessment; 4) marketing and promotion; and 5) networking and professional service. Fund-raising and supervisory responsibilities are anticipated as part of this position. The position will work as part of a team that is furthering the Partnership’s development of the CFC as a regional hub and base of operations for professional education and outreach and in furthering the communication of forest and related natural resource sciences by the College.
This position resides at the Cloquet Forestry Center, reports to the Director of Operations, and will work closely with UMN faculty and allied professionals and scientists throughout Minnesota and the Upper Great Lakes Region to develop relevant, innovative educational programs. The Cooperative is made up of dues-paying member individuals and organizations who help to inform and/or provide programming needs. Major curriculum development in the area of advanced silvicultural practices is expected as part of new programmatic direction in the near future. Communication and cooperation with other programs/organizations, such as the Minnesota Forest Resources Council, the Minnesota Logger Education Program, the Minnesota Forest Resources Partnership, the Society of American Foresters, and UMN Extension will be important functions of the position.
MS in Forestry/Natural Resource Sciences, or closely related field by date of appointment
Experience in natural resource education and/or program development
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to meet and manage deadlines
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple work projects and types of activities
Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy, precision, and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders
Proficiency with computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications
Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet the University of Minnesota’s vehicle use requirements
