Posting Date: 17 Dec 13
Closing Date: 18 Mar 14
The 2014-2015 Naturalist Internship is now open and accepting applications. After completing a 2.5-week intensive training course in August, you will begin a 33-week practicum experience which is aligned to Ohio Academic Content Standards. Naturalists have the freedom to creatively develop individual lesson plans and teaching styles within our curriculum which includes wildlife, ecology, geology, team building, and cultural history. You will teach students in grades 4-6 through experiential activities and discussions.
In addition to teaching, the Outdoor Education Center and Raptor Center provide opportunities for Naturalists and students to get hands-on with some of Ohio's native wildlife, such as turtles, snakes, and owls. Interns are trained to handle, care for, and teach with these educational ambassadors.
Interns live in one of three staff houses in the beautiful 1,000-acre Glen Helen Nature Preserve while forming a supportive community of like-minded individuals dedicated to providing science-based experiential learning in the outdoors while fostering a respect for the natural environment and inspiring people to act in its interest. The vibrant and artistic Village of Yellow Springs is within walking distance of the preserve.
