Livestock Guard Dog Research Technician

One technician will be based in Montana, another in Oregon/Washington, and a third in Wyoming/Idaho. Study sites range across private and public lands with most summer field work occurring on USFS grazing allotments.
The expected dates for this position are April through early-October, though the exact start and ending dates may vary depending on the allotments/locations. The stipend for this position is $1500/month. Time off will be given, however work is conducted 5-7 days a week and will be conducted during irregular hours. Housing and a field vehicle will be provided.
•Previous field experience
•Ability to work with sheep producers and herdsmen, Wildlife Service employees, researchers, and other technicians
•Prior experience with livestock, producers, LPDs, and/or agriculture
•Ability to work long, often irregular hours with minimal time off in various weather extremes and must be able to sit (behavioral observations) or hike (telemetry) for long hours
•Comfortable working where large carnivores may be encountered
•Ability to work well independently
•Must be hardworking, motivated, and have a positive attitude
•Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle and ATV
•Preference will be given to applicants that can speak Spanish
