Graduate (PhD) Assistantship: White Sands Pupfish Ecology

This successful candidate will characterize the abundance and distribution of the charismatic White Sands pupfish across its range of habitat in south central New Mexico and relate abundance of individual populations to season and habitat types. Specifically, the student will have intellectual freedom to explore and implement sampling protocols to estimate population abundance across marsh, streams, and springs to compare the effectiveness of existing monitoring protocol. A great deal of freedom and resources will be given to the candidate to pursue additional areas of research.
$22,758/year (12 month stipend) for up to 4 years
Contact Information:Qualifications: M.S. related to fisheries biology, ecology, or natural resource management. Quantitative and Verbal GRE scores must be greater than 75%. Successful candidate must have demonstrated a strong work ethic, an ability to work well with others as well as an ability to work independently. Must demonstrate well-developed oral as well as written communication skills with a proven publication record. Strong analytical skills including statistical analysis using SAS or R, spatial ecology using GIS, and water chemistry.
