Fisheries Policy Specialist

Will provide expertise to support national policy development and implementation for the NOAA Fisheries Habitat Protection Division (HPD). Will work to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of the essential fish habitat (EFH) program under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) http://www.habitat.noaa.gov/protection/efh/index.html; strengthen state, federal and external partnerships through the implementation of the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) http://www.fishhabitat.org/; and support national habitat conservation policy initiatives through NOAA's Habitat Blueprint (www.habitat.noaa.gov/habitatblueprint).
5 + years of experience in implementing marine habitat conservation policies and guidance. Requires demonstrated experience building partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups. Must have demonstrated experience facilitating discussions when there are differing viewpoints as well as conflict management. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires a high degree of individual initiative and demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Requires knowledge of or experience with EFH under the MSA; the principles of coastal and marine habitat conservation; and practical experience applying natural resource policies and regulations, preferably in coastal and marine environments. Experience developing and implementing conservation strategies at the landscape or watershed scale is desirable.
Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
BS in Natural Resource Management, Marine Policy, Fisheries Science, related discipline, or equivalent. MS preferred.
