Field Assistant Positions - Baboon behavior, physiology, and parasite ecology, South Africa

We are looking for several volunteer field assistants to help with long-term monitoring of social behavior, feeding ecology, stress responses and parasite infections in wild chacma baboons (Papio ursinus) on the Cape Peninsula of South Africa. Primary responsibilities will be the collection of behavioral and demographic data, monitoring of group movements and human-baboon interactions, collection and processing of samples for hormonal analyses, and data entry/management. This is an ideal position for someone who wants to gain field experience in preparation for a graduate program in biological anthropology, animal behavior, or related fields.

Minimum qualifications:
- good physical condition,
- excellent attention to detail,
- excellent social and communication skills,
- reliable and highly motivated,
- able to work independently and as part of a team,
- comfortable with living away from family and friends

Accommodation in shared housing close to the field site is partly paid by the project; remaining rent contributions are about $200-250 per month per person, depending on room size. Further support for travel and living costs may be provided based on length of stay and availability of funds.

Term of Appointment:
Minimum of 6 months preferred
