Botanical Technicians and Botanist

Job Descriptions and Qualifications:
BOTANY CREW: Primary duties are to conduct field surveys for rare plants across the Forest. Additional work includes native plant collecting, implementing restoration projects, & environmental education. Two positions available, GS-4 to GS-7. Start date ~April 2014.
INVASIVE PLANT CREW: Primary duties are to survey for and treat invasive plants across the Forest. Two positions available, GS-4 to GS-6. Start date ~April 2014.
Desired skills for both crews include: enthusiasm for plant identification using taxonomic keys, familiarity with California flora, non-vascular plant ID, and proficiency using GIS, GPS, topographic maps, and compass. Ability to operate vehicles on rough roads, including use of 4WD, is necessary for the position. Qualified candidates must be in good physical fitness and be willing to work under difficult/strenuous conditions throughout the summer.
BOTANIST: Primary duty is to provide botanical support for forest projects (including writing biological documents for rare and invasive plants). Miscellaneous work in support of the botanical programs. Position includes office and field work. One position available, GS-9. Start date ~March 2014.
Desired skills include writing experience, data management and analysis, and proficiency using GIS, as well as the field experience listed above.
