2003

• Conservation and the Social Sciences editorial published in Conservation Biology
• First workshop - Conservation Biology and the Social Sciences: New Possibilities for Collaboration - organized for SCB annual meeting
• Social Science Working Group (SSWG) formally established
• SSWG discussion list launched
• SSWG website launched

2004

• SSWG bylaws adopted
• SSWG interim Board of Directors established
• First SSWG business meeting held at SCB annual meeting

2005

• SSWG Board elected and Committees established
• First SSWG need-based travel grants awarded
• First SCB membership awards granted to developing country students
• First SSWG symposium - Conservation and the Social Sciences: Lessons from the Field - organized for SCB annual meeting
• SSWG membership reaches 500

2006

• SSWG first helps organize scientific program for SCB annual meeting
