New members always welcome…
The SCB Chapters Advisory Committee is an incredibly fun and rewarding
group. We do things like put on big social events at the SCB
conference (e.g., the SCB Networking Night), host chapter workshops,
put together sister-chapters, and help new chapters grow. There’s
nothing quite like seeing the immediate effects of your work and
knowing that you’re making a real difference for conservation and for
SCB!
We began in 2003 at the request of the SCB Executive Office. The
Committee’s formal mission is to guide and support Chapters as well as
to advocate Chapter interests with SCB-global. The Committee members
fulfill this mission by:
- Helping Chapters establish and grow
- Increasing material support from SCB-global
- Enabling inter-chapter communication
- Promoting collaboration among Chapters & other parts of SCB
- Creating greater visibility for Chapters within SCB-global
- Facilitating a network of Chapters across the globe
Committee members are volunteers who often have experience with their
local Chapter. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in
Chapters, and new members are always welcome!
As of January 2008, Committee members included:
Fiona Nagle, Chair
Tom Sisk, Chapters Liaison to the SCB Board of Governors
Heather DeCaluwe, Executive Office Representative
Carolina Garcia (Bolivia Chapter), ANA section/chapters relationship
Manuela Gonzalez (Central Arizona Chapter)
Aletris Neils (Florida Chapter)
David Patrick (Maine Chapter), student affairs
Kelly Pennington (Minnesota Chapter), webmaster
Chapters 5-Year Strategic Plan
The 5-year Strategic Plan for Chapters and the Chapters Advisory Committee was drafted in 2006 after the San Jose meeting. This plan provides a road map for fostering chapter growth, visibility, and networking. It also has an updated list of Committee activities and tasks.
