Welcome to the SCB Chapters Web site!

There are numerous advantages to belonging to a Local Chapter. These include: accessing resources for finding jobs, funding, and projects; attending continuing education lectures or classes; supporting community and regional conservation projects and education; participating in public and political advocacy for conservation; sharing information and resources with other members; and enjoying the camaraderie of other like-minded professionals and students.

If you don't already belong to a Chapter, we encourage you to check the Directory on this web site to see if there is a chapter in your area. If there is one, we urge you to join and see what you've been missing! If one doesn't exist or is no longer active, then consider starting or reinitiating one. This web site contains more detailed information on chapters and their activities, helpful advice on how to start a chapter, and downloadable generic Charters, By-laws, and Agreements. An easy-to-follow guidebook on how to start a chapter, which draws on the collective experience of many of the already-active chapters, will also be available later this year.

In addition to the information provided by this web site, the Chapters Committee is here to assist you. The Committee helps Chapters establish and grow; enables Chapters to exchange ideas and information; creates opportunities for better coordination between Chapters and other parts of the larger SCB organization; and facilitates a network of Chapters across the globe. Through these and other efforts, SCB hopes to better serve its members and to strengthen its contribution to conservation as a whole.

If you have questions or comments, or would like help in establishing a chapter in your area, please contact the Chapters Committee. They're always glad to hear from you.

Regards, and happy chaptering!
