Subject: New internet resource for the conservation of Columbidae
A new internet resource has been launched to promote and support the conservation of pigeons and doves Columbidae. The web site provides a platform to draw together information and research activities on this family and help foster communication and the sharing of information between researchers, captive breeders and wildlife managers. Columbidae is one of the eight most threatened bird families; seventy (23%) of the c.309 species of pigeon are threatened with extinction, one species is extinct in the wild and a further 35 (11%) species are Near Threatened.
