Taking on Climate Change in Conservation: Climate Camp (The Abridged Version)
Session Organizer: Lara Hansen, Jennifer Hoffman, Chris Zganjar, and Lee Hannah
Description: Climate change is making clear the complex interactions within and among ecosystems, challenging traditional approaches to conservation. For this and other reasons, the conservation community has shied away from the implications of climate for the practice of conservation, and as a result is unsure of the way forward. Climate Camp is an opportunity to become acquainted with current science, tools and approaches for building climate change resilience into conservation and development planning. Climate Camp participants explore climate vulnerabilities and opportunities for action, and develop action plans for their own response to climate change. Climate Camp organizers hope this will provide a springboard for further action based on participants' new knowledge of climate change, types of available data, response options, and their own empowerment by developing an initial concept of how to deal with this imposing issue.
