Social Science Working Group Grant Recipient Wins Goldman Prize

Silas Kpanan'Ayoung Siakor, one of the scholars that the Social Science Working Group supported at the 2005 annual meeting with a travel grant from The Christensen Fund, won the 2006 Goldman Prize for his work in Liberia. Silas was a presenter in the symposium Conservation and the Social Sciences: Lessons from the Field. His research on the links between deforestation, armed conflict, and environmental injustice led to major policy actions by the U.N. Security Council and the new Liberian government.
