INHERIT AND CONSERVE!
Building conservation capacity, recycling scientific resources: conbio.org/2004/InheritConserve
Help SCB strengthen conservation capacity worldwide by recycling valuable scientific resources. Inherit & Conserve aims to provide conservation professionals in developing countries with previously used equipment and supplies to aid in their conservation efforts. Donated scientific resources will be matched with recipients using the World Wide Web and distributed at SCB's 2004 annual meeting.
To match donors and recipients, we need your help. Read on and become a part of Inherit & Conserve.
Has your two-year old GPS been abandoned? Are mist nests decorating your lab walls, or journals propping up your computer monitor? Help sponsor research worldwide by donating scientific resources you no longer need.
Guidelines
Descriptions of donations will be accepted online from 1 May-15 June 2004. We simply ask that you provide a description of your item, its condition (all items must be in working condition), and quantity. We will notify you whether your item has been matched with a recipient in early July and if so, we will provide you with drop-off instructions.
The 2004 annual meeting will serve as the clearinghouse for donations. You must either attend the meeting (bringing the item with you), ship your item to the meeting, or find a creative solution (eager graduate student willing to drive to New York City?) SCB is not responsible for shipping or delivering the item(s) you donate.
Could your conservation efforts benefit from used research and education resources? Inherit an item from a colleague in another country!
Guidelines
Browse the list of available resources and click on those in which you are interested for a more detailed description. If you would like to inherit an item, simply submit the Web form located on the item's description page. Items will be available to browse from 1 May-30 June 2004. We will notify you whether your application has been successful in early July.
Recipients may be from anywhere outside the Developed world and may be from any field in conservation (practitioners, educators, students, academic researchers, and so forth). Items are not available to those from a Developed country who are currently working in the recipient area (e.g., a World Bank consultant currently working abroad) or to students from the recipient area who are studying in a Developed country (e.g., a student from China studying in the United States).
The 2004 annual meeting will serve as the clearinghouse for this project. In order to pick up the item, you must either attend the annual meeting or arrange to have a colleague who is attending the meeting deliver the item to you. SCB is not responsible for shipping, delivering, or babysitting the item(s) you receive.
Requests to inherit an item will be reviewed and selected according to the merit of your request. Please note that the item request form requires a description of how the item will aid your conservation research or outreach efforts, the number of people who will have access to this resource, and whether you are a member of SCB.
SCB reserves the right to remove items from listing due to high request volumes.
