    SCB Distinguished Service Awards

    The Society for Conservation Biology presents five awards for distinguished service in the field of conservation biology at its annual meeting. The Awards Committee solicits nominations from SCB members and the Board of Governors makes the final selection. The awards are presented to outstanding individuals, groups, or institutions whose work has furthered the mission of SCB through unique contributions in the following categories:

    1. Academia
    2. Government
    3. Outside academia and government
    4. Social, economic, and political work
    5. Education and journalism

    Nomination forms for the 2002 awards are available on SCB's web site or from Seema Paul, Chair, SCB Awards Committee, United Nations Foundation, 1301 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20036, spaul@unfoundation.org. Nominations must be submitted by 25 December 2001.

    Edward T. LaRoe III Memorial Award

    SCB also presents an annual Edward T. LaRoe III Memorial Award. This special award honors individuals who have devoted their careers to translating the principles of conservation biology into real-world management. Nominees may work in any country or academic field or for any type of organization as long as they have effectively brought science to bear on policy issues. Nominations should include a letter of support for your nominee and the nominee's curriculum vitae or other biographic materials. Send nominations to Barry Noon, Department of Fish and Wildlife Biology, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1473. Nominations must be received by 31 January 2002.
