NEW BOARD MEMBERS SOUGHT

The Society for Conservation Biology seeks nominees to serve on the Board of Governors. The major commitments of service on the Board are to attend the two Board meetings each year and to serve on one or two committees. One Board meeting is held at SCB's annual meeting. A second meeting, the strategic planning meeting, normally is held in February. Service on the Board therefore is not a huge commitment, but it can be as meaningful as you wish. We are seeking people committed to improving SCB by making us more representative, active, and effective. Although Board members are expected to pay their own travel expenses to meetings, we do not want financial considerations to determine who runs for the Board. Thus, we are willing to provide subsidies for those with limited funds or unusually high costs.

The following offices are open: president, non-governmental organization, governmental agency, social sciences, and member-at-large. Nominees must be SCB members in good standing. Nominees for president must have served previously on the Board of Governors. Elections will be held in November 2000.

If you are interested in serving on the Board, or would like to suggest potential candidates, please write an application expressing your interest and what you think you might contribute to the Board to the Chair of the Nominations Committee, P. Dee Boersma, Department of Zoology, Box 351800, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195-1800, Telephone (206) 616-2185, FAX (206) 221-7839, boersma@u.washington.edu. Nominations must be received by 1 September 2000.

New! A nomination form is now available online.
