The Editorial Coordinator for Conservation Biology, Krista Clements, will leave in August 2000 to pursue Ph.D. studies, thus creating a vacancy. The newly defined position of Editorial Assistant will be an approximately 30 hour-per-week position. It will involve coordination of all activities of the main Editorial Office: flow and tracking of manuscripts, correspondence with authors, communication with the publisher, some proofing work, inquiring after late manuscripts, and other assistance to the Editor. Minimum qualifications include proficiency with Microsoft Word, working knowledge of Excel, and strong communication skills. Above all else, this person must be able to perform highly detailed work with minimal direct supervision and must be extremely organized. Other, desired qualifications include a background in conservation, ecology, biology, or other sciences, and/or experience in editing or publishing. A stable, dedicated person is needed for this position.
The position will be located at the University of Florida in Gainesville, a very nice part of north-central Florida, with many natural areas and cultural activities, and will begin no later than 1 July 2000. Salary: $22,000 with full university benefits (health insurance and retirement) or $27,000 without benefits.
