As a member of the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), SCB invites you to
explore AIBS's new online Legislative Information Center. This powerful resource offers a
searchable directory of members of Congress, a bill-tracking mechanism linked to the
Library
of Congress, committee schedules, and templates for individuals to write to Congressional
representatives. Learn about current legislation, key votes, and how to communicate in the
policy arena. From the AIBS homepage, http://www.aibs.org/, link to the Legislative
Information Center through the Government Affairs entry, where you also will find the
monthly column Washington Watch and information about AIBS's Congressional Fellowship
Program. Also available from the AIBS website are select articles from BioScience, updates
on current events and meetings, and educational and career information.
Founded in 1947, AIBS is a non-profit scientific service organization comprising more
than 6000 individual members as well as 55 professional societies and other scholarly
organizations with a collective membership of approximately 130,000 individuals. AIBS
supports biologists and the biological sciences through a variety of programs, including
coalition actions with its member societies and organizations, publishing the journal
BioScience, conducting scientific peer review and advisory services for government agencies
and other clients, convening meetings, providing administrative and operational support for
member societies, and conducting education, research, and public outreach activities. For
more information about AIBS and the Legislative Information Center, contact the AIBS
