IUCN POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
In preparation for the 4th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Intersessional Meeting on the Operations of the Convention, IUCN is developing policy re c ommendations on the topics listed below. Because many are of long-standing interest to SCB, it would be appropriate for either SCB as an organization or individual members to comment on these topics. SCB President Dee Boersma will be drafting a letter f rom SCB to IUCN and welcomes SCB members' views on these topic areas as they relate to policy.
(1) alien invasive species
(2) drylands, mediterranean, arid, semi-arid, grassland and savannah ecosystems
(3) sustainable use
(4) biodiversity impact assessment
(5) trade, access and benefit sharing
(6) institutional matters of the programme of work (of SBSTTA)
(7) ecosystem approaches
(8) relationship of the Convention on Biological Diversity with other agreements
(9) protected areas
(10) forests
(11) education and awareness
