SCB takes research by students very seriously because this work, to a large degree, represents the future of our field and our society. Each year students compete for research paper awards at SCB's annual meeting. Students who wish to compete should submit four copies of an extended abstract (3-5 paragraphs, preferably including 3 to 5 tables or figures) by 8 February 2000 to Aram Calhoun, 5722 Deering Hall, University of Maine, Orono, Maine 04469, Email calhoun@maine.edu. Follow the instructions included in the general call for abstracts. Abstracts must be submitted by 24 January. Ten to 15 finalists in each category (oral and poster) will be selected by a review committee. The papers of these finalists will then be judged at the annual meeting. Awards are given to four oral papers and one poster.
