Members and participants in the meeting who wish to organize and convene symposia should submit a proposal to the local organizing committee. Please use email wherever possible for all communications, facsimile as a second alternative if no email service is available to you, and airmail only as a last alternative.
Symposia that relate directly to the theme of the conference are particularly encouraged, as are symposia relevant to Australasia and the Pacific region. Symposia will preferably be of two-hour duration, but proposals for symposia of four hours duration will be considered. Proposals for symposia of longer duration must be accompanied by a detailed justification.
In general, oral symposia papers will be presented by persons invited by the symposia convenor(s), but poster presentations relevant to each symposium may be submitted by any registered participant in the meeting. All convenors and speakers must be registered participants.
In planning a proposal please consider that, in order to facilitate timing and flexibility for the listener, all oral presentations will be in multiples of 10 minutes and blocks of two hours. Thus in a two-hour symposium you can have 12 talks of 10 minutes, six of 20 minutes, or four of 30 minutes, but not eight of 15 minutes.
Proposals for symposia should contain the following essential information:
- Name(s) of convenor(s).
- Email address of the convenor acting as contact person or an email address for someone who can pass on messages quickly.
- Postal address, telephone, and FAX numbers of the convenor acting as contact person.
- Symposium title and a brief description of the topics to be included.
- Proposed length of symposium (two-hour, four-hour, six-hour, full day).
- A list of proposed invited speakers, with tentative titles if possible.
- An indication of whether the convenors wish to restrict oral presentations to their invitees or whether they will call for expressions of interest from the SCB membership.
- An indication of whether the symposium papers are to be submitted for publication, and, if so, whether prior submission of manuscripts will be required.
- Any other information the convenor(s) think will aid the local committee.
Proposals for workshops should contain the following information:

- Email address of the convenor acting as contact person or an email address for someone who can pass on messages quickly.
- Postal address, telephone, and FAX numbers of the convenor acting as contact person.
- Workshop title and a brief description of the topics to be included.
- Proposed length of workshop (two-hour, four-hour, six-hour, full day).
- A list of proposed invited speakers or presenters.
- Maximum number of participants, and a clear indication of whether the convenor(s) will offer to repeat the workshop if numbers of interested participants exceed the proposed limit. Repeat sessions if offered will be held on Friday 17 July.
- Special equipment needed for workshop:
- Computers (IBM, Mac, Other / Processor type / Memory required / Peripherals)

- Any other requirements
