Journal Watch Slow-growth Forests Climate change may stunt rather than spur tree growth Feeley, K.J. et al. 2007. Decelerating growth in tropical forest trees. Ecology Letters 10(6):461-469.
Not all forests are responding to climate change in the same way. In the Amazon, trees are growing faster. But new research shows that trees in Panama and Malaysia are actually growing more slowly. So if we were pinning our hopes on tropical forests working overtime to absorb excess CO2, we may need to think again. Moreover, the news isn’t good for the , log in below. |
