An overview of SCB's Policy Approval Process is available here.

After reviewing the policy page and resources, one of the most effective ways you can bring science to policymakers is to establish relationships with your government officials wherever you are.

In the U.S., for example, citizens can get to know their Senators, Members of Congress and agency officials working on issues they care about most. Under "Policy Tools and Guidelines for SCB Members" on the navigation bar to the left, we have web sites for offices and research reports to help guide you through the international and U.S. federal policy ecosystems. U.S. SCB members may also want to call the Capitol Operator at 202-225-3121, and ask to be connected to the offices of your House Members and Senators and Committees of interest.

SCB Policy Priority # 5: Investment and Procurement

One of the best sources of information and opportunities to bring conservation biology and practice to investment circles is through the Finance Initiative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). Their April/May Newsletter is reprinted on the website. Highlights include a section on Climate Change and an entry on the first biodiversity work stream meeting. SCB has been invited to participate in that UNEP-FI work stream and expects to become more involved shortly. SCB Members who would like to join the Investment/Procurement Policy Team should contact John Fitzgerald.

UNEP FI Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services Inaugural Workshop: 5 April 2007, London Some 30 delegates representing financial institutions, inter-governmental organisations as well as NGOs met at a workshop organised by UNEP FI at KPMG's offices in London. The workshop gave rise to some vibrant discussions around the theme of financial sector engagement in biodiversity and ecosystem services. The outcomes of the workshop will provide concrete steps forward for UNEP FI in mapping out a clear path for achieving the Workstream’s deliverables in 2007.
