Meeting
Theme
The
17th Annual Meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology will
be held in Duluth, Minnesota, on the shores of beautiful Lake
Superior. The meeting's theme, Conservation of Land and Water
Interactions, will focus attention on water, forests, wetlands,
the Great Lakes and other large lakes and rivers of the world,
marine and coastal systems, and associated biodiversity issues.
These
zones where terrestrial habitats meet aquatic habitats such as
oceans, lakes, streams, or wetlands are dynamic regions. Most
house unique suites of species and they are subject to a host
of human and natural disturbances. They have complex spatial and
temporal patterns and linkages. We encourage dialogue on this
subject as well as a host of other conservation biology topics.
The
site of the meeting sits in a highly altered coastal zone, next
to one of the largest lakes of the world, and the region has an
extremely high density of lakes, rivers, and wetlands adjacent
to urban, agricultural, and especially forested areas.
